Community Development

The City of Poughkeepsie community development department works to improve the quality-of-life of residents through the planning and development of municipal infrastructure and public amenities. It includes the administration of community and economic development programs including the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), a federally funded formula-based grant that is allocated by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The Community Development Block Grant, administered by the City of Poughkeepsie and local non-profit organizations, provides needed services to the City's lower income residents in an effort to create a suitable living environment throughout the community.

The City of Poughkeepsie also administers a Youth Activities and Opportunities Grant. The City provides funding to organizations, clubs, leagues, and/or educational institutions or groups that offer opportunities for children residing in the City to participate in community based youth programs, projects, activities, and camps.

For more information on the programs offered by the Community Development Department, please call 845-451-4046.
